Going to a restaurant is a time honored dating tradition. It’s also a testing ground with a lot of pressure and decision making. You want to look your best and can spend hours fussing over your hair and outfit.💇‍♂️👔👱‍♀️👠Should the suitor choose somewhere really nice so as not to be perceived as cheap? It can also be unclear who picks up the check in this modern era.🤷‍♂️🤳🤷‍♀️

Then there’s the conundrum that comes with ordering. Should you go with the usual rib plate special or play it safe with a salad? One does not want to appear messy or overly ravenous. You’ll probably be too nervous to eat more than a few bites anyway. (This is in great contrast to a few years in when you don’t even bother to wipe the bbq sauce off your chin while gnawing on that last rib bone).🤤🦴

What if you’re still working on the bread basket and realize that you’re not really into your date?😐 Would you send the wrong message by ordering a martini and filet mignon or should you opt for an unassuming BLT and Diet Coke?😳🍸 It doesn’t always end well unlike what we may see on a romantic comedy. On the other hand, ordering dessert is a good sign that the other person is interested.✅ Having coffee afterwards pretty much seals the deal for the next date.🧁☕️😉

There’s an old saying that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. The same can also be said for a woman.🙋‍♀️ Preparing a meal for someone in the beginning of a romance can make you feel vulnerable. You’re exposing your heart on a plate for the other person to see. You worry if they will genuinely like your dish or eat out of forced politeness.

There’s potential rejection hovering over the table like a looming thunderstorm until they take that first bite.😮⛈ Then the clouds suddenly part and a wave of sunshine washes over you if they enjoy your food and pay compliments to the chef.🌤👍👩‍🍳 Helping to clean up afterwards is a solid indication of a budding romance.🧽🥰🎶

Food can serve as a means of expressing your feelings for someone. Your significant other brings over hot soup when you get sick.🤧🥫Folks often gift their sweetheart with chocolates on Valentine’s Day. Many have gotten down on one knee in the middle of a restaurant.💍🥂Couples cut a piece of cake and playfully “smash” it in the other’s face on their wedding day.🍰💏

Breaking bread can also be an intimate way to connect. You make dinner reservations at a nice restaurant to celebrate your anniversary.🍾 You cook your partner’s favorite meals for birthdays, special occasions or just because it’s Tuesday. You enjoy hosting holiday gatherings together with family. Looking back, you realize that food has been there from the very beginning. Food is love.😍

I’m a self teaching home cook and aspiring foodie entrepreneur. I enjoy coming up with creative ways to prepare flavorful food such as snacks, desserts and everything in between. Cooking is a way for me to challenge myself and satisfy curiosities about different ingredients.

The hope is to produce something thoughtful, memorable or every once in a while maybe even wonderful. I enjoy following my “gut” and exploring new recipes that can be comforting, exciting and nourishing. Above all else, I enjoy exploring the emotions surrounding food and writing about those experiences. 😝👩‍🍳👩‍💻
